Who Is the Flower Girl?
The Flower Girl is often a young relative between the ages of 3 and 7 years old. She can also be the daughter of a close friend if you do not have any young relatives.
What Is Her Role?
Generally, the Flower Girl walks down the aisle before or with the Ring Bearer. She carries a basket decorated with flowers and filled with rose petals. She sprinkles the rose petals on the floor for the bride to walk on.
When The Church Won't Allow Petals
Some churches do not allow this tradition of sprinkling rose petals because of the mess it can potentially make. Alternatives would be to let the Flower Girl carry a small bouquet or to have her pass out roses to the guests as she makes her way down the aisle.
The Flower Girl and The Rehearsal
Although the Flower Girl needs to be at the Rehearsal she does not attend the Rehearsal Dinner.
The Flower Girl and The Receiving Line
In addition, the Flower Girl does not stand in the receiving line.
The Flower Girl's Parents Responsibilities
The Flower Girl's parents should be responsible for paying for her attire and they should also attend to her after the wedding ceremony.

Megan from Alabama says... My flower girl is my daughter - and she will be with me through every aspect of my wedding. There is no way that I'd leave her out. She will even walk down the isle with me and not infront of me. Wedding Date: May 14 Posted: 9/16/2010 10:51:36 AM |

Lei Lydle, Editor from says... Niki, It is fine if you want to have your flower girl at the rehearsal dinner. Generally, the children involved in the wedding don't attend the rehearsal so they can go home and get a good night's rest - they need it so they can perform cheerfully at the wedding. Many rehearsal dinners are quite long and exhausting for children so traditional wedding etiquette dictates that the children do not attend - but really that is entirely up to you. Good luck!
