Basic Reception Décor

The flowers for the reception should coordinate with the style and color of the wedding. Generally, you need to have table decorations and maybe some indoor plants to provide a garden type atmosphere.

Guest Table Decorations

The guest table decorations should be simple centerpieces that compliment the table linens and the size of the table. Don't have very tall arrangements in the center of the table. I have been to several wedding where the centerpieces blocked the guests view from both the events and the guests sitting across from them!

For some great table decor ideas, read this article about Trends in Wedding Table Decor.

Decorating the Buffet Table

You should also provide some type of flower arrangement for the buffet table. This arrangement should be fairly tall and should also coordinate with the table linens and the size of the table.

Add Some Greenery

To add a warm feeling to the reception site, you could rent indoor plants and trees to provide some greenery. For a formal event, you might rent trees and decorate them with white Christmas lights.

For Buffet Presentation: Have food displayed at many different heights using a variety of styles of containers. Silver, pewter, wrought iron, and glass are good choices for creating the atmosphere and feeling of the reception. For an added elegant presentation add a smaller table with a pedestal on top, then place that on top of the main food table. You will need at least a 5' round or 2 six ft. tables placed side by side for this effect to work. Add a fresh flower arrangement or silk with fresh fern, with a color material drapeing around the base which flows down to the top of the main table. Use artificial fruits and vegetables (with a few of the fresh variety mixed in), to add color in and around the containers of foods. Add candlesticks and candelabras for added height and elegance. The use of boxes of different heirghts- covered with cloth is of course acceptable, but keep a lookout for the unusual. Something like an ornate plant stand instead of a covered box, silver antique goblets with an oval mirrow on top for cheese and crackers. Use your imagination, be dramatic and bold, but in all cases, have fun and don't try to do it all by yourself.
