On Saturday, September 10th, I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Stephanie and Michael, a young couple in Birmingham, Alabama. The wedding provided a first for me as it was a traditional Greek Orthodox wedding held at Holy Trinity - Holy Cross Cathedral. The cathedral was absolutely beautiful, and it provided a lot of great atmosphere for the day.

Rachel and Jeff met in Piedmont Park in April of 2009 while walking their dogs.  They soon became inseparable, which made it especially difficult when Rachel had to move to New Orleans for a year to complete her training as a psychologist.

Even though there were thousands of miles between them, Jeff and Rachel continued to grow closer by talking and video-chatting daily.  While Rachel was home in Georgia visiting that next Christmas, Jeff popped the question during a private tour he had arranged at the Georgia Aquarium....

I love this Real Georgia Wedding: Elopement submitted by Famous William Company in Carrollton, Georgia.Simple, creative, sweet, romantic, private - as any elopment should be!

Kylene and Eric met in college at the University of West Georgia and so historical downtown Carrollton, Georgia was the perfect location for their elopement. Kylene's wedding dress is a 2 piece vintage Jessica McClintock gown and her head piece was hand made from pieces of recycled vintage wedding gowns. All of Eric's clothing was purchased at a vintage shop in town. The china they used using for their wedding day picnic is vintage 1960s Homer Laughlin Cavalier Springtime.

Wedding eye candy for you to enjoy from Claudia and Tom's ceremony at Flint Hill in Norcross. It never occurred to me before I saw her on the wedding day, but Claudia is my blonde Audrey Hepburn (yes, I consider my clients officially "mine"!). “We met on a  random Wednesday,” recalls Erikka Searles. She was at a launch party in  Buckhead with a sorority sister, and Omoro Mitchell, a Marine who had served in  Afghanistan, was there with friends. “When I first saw her she was dancing, it  was her confidence that I was attracted to,” added Omoro.

 The two  chatted, and a week later, they went on their first date. They saw Man on  Fire, and Omoro reached out to hold Erikka’s hand during the movie. “I  thought that was just the sweetest thing,” Erikka said. It was an ordinary  beginning to what would become an extraordinary love story.

 About a year  ago, 32-year old Omoro was diagnosed with Chronic Heart Failure. The two had  just returned from a trip to visit family, and were beginning to talk marriage.  Omoro was saving up for an engagement ring, and they’d even gone to peruse  their options. They were on top of the world, and all it took was a single trip  to the VA hospital for it all to come crashing down...

February isn't over yet!  I recently received these photos of a Valentine's Themed wedding in Carrollton, Georgia from Famous William Company.  I wanted to slip them in on the site in February so here you go!  The couple and the photos are stunning!

Our couple enjoyed their day hosting a "tea for two" themed party on Mr. Paul Cooper's farm in Carrollton, Ga. Jessica and Cody had a romantic rendezvous through the fields, and decorated a tree with paper hearts and twine. Later Jessica ate chocolates while Cody played her a tuneful serenade.

Jessica is wearing a lovely 1950's vintage Alfred Angelo Bridallure lace wedding gown, with a beautiful antique rose cameo necklace. Her delicate femininity is perfectly balanced by the rustic color scheme of Cody's attire. Cody's boutonnière of miniature roses is accompanied with twigs and blackberries.

On Friday, July 9th, DSmithImages was on hand to photograph the wedding celebration of Abi and Chad Hubbard, who are both close friends of the family. Abi and Chad were married in a small ceremony in Ireland back in June. This event on July 9th was a reception they hosted for friends and family. The party was held at The Loft at Flower Stems in Birmingham, who also provided the flower arrangements, and it was catered by Chef Bob of Catering by Chef Bob.

March 20th was the day Leah married her sweetheart Davis Prince, at the beautiful 1st Methodist Church in Montgomery. Dodd married his beautiful bride Kathleen at Canterbury United Methodist Church, on a blustery day last March. The ceremony was traditional, romantic and very elegant, just as Kathleen had envisioned. The couple was then whisked away in a 1952 Silver Bentley to The Summit Club, where they enjoyed a private dinner, as guests were arriving. Bride was then bustled, fixed her makeup and the couple made their way to the dance floor for their first dance. They danced to "At Last," performed by the band Drivetrain, while surrounded by incredible lighting. The rooms were filled with the sweet aroma of fresh flowers and candlelight everywhere. The rest of the evening was truly a great party, as everyone filled their plates with delicious food and cake, danced, and enjoyed the city lights far below. The fabulous cakes were provided by Sweet Magnolia, photography by Jerrod Brown, and flowers by Lillies. Bride and Groom made their dramatic exit, outside the club, and ran through a shower of sparklers.

When it came to planning Gopi and Ivan's wedding, they both knew they wanted something different.

Gopi and Ivan's goal was not to plan a typical Indian wedding, Arabic wedding or Southern wedding, but to take the best from all of them to create a special night! They wanted their wedding to be representative of who they were and what their marriage would be. They envisioned themselves as a family who would benefit from the union of so many rich cultures and traditions, and they wanted their friends and family to see that on their wedding day. In the end, with the support of their parents, friends and family, they celebrated their marriage in one fabulous event.

• To create the best photo opportunities for a winter wedding, select ceremony and reception locations that can function as scenic backgrounds for your images in the event it is simply too cold to do any photos outdoors.
  

• Depending on the sanctuary, an afternoon service can mean the interior of the church is bright. Having plenty of natural light can lend a sunny, cheerful look to your images even in the middle of winter.
  

• A limousine or antique car can be a great setting to stay warm and enjoy a romantic moment (in front of the camera, of course!)

• Lastly, be absolutely certain your photographer has a lighting plan if it's necessary to shoot everything inside. It doesn't have to be an elaborate plan, but it should involve more than simply on-camera flash, which tends to create the same look for each moment and sometimes simply isn't powerful enough.

• Enjoy planning your winter wedding! I hope these photos offer a little inspiration.

Meghan knew the stress of planning a wedding in two months wouldn't be easy. So she subscribed to all wedding blogs and scoured the magazines. What she ended up was a New Year's Eve wedding that had a vintage edge with a handmade touch. And the fur didn't hurt a bit! "I just wanted a celebration," said Meghan, and did she get one! They started the party at their wedding and continued it all night long through New Year's. A day-after shoot in downtown Tuscaloosa captured the spirit of a new year, and a new bride.

It is that time of year... engagement season! More people in Atlanta get engaged during the Christmas to New Year's to Valentine's holidays than any other time of year. And if you are an engaged or soon-to-be engaged Atlanta bride or groom, you will need some lovely engagement portraits to share with your friends and family!

Stone Mountain Park is a popular location for both Atlanta engagement photo sessions and Atlanta weddings. Here are a few engagement portraits taken in the past year or so at Stone Mountain Park by my talented Atlanta wedding photographer friend Hilarye at Fotographa.

Stone Mountain Park also has two great Atlanta wedding venues: The Formal Garden and the Henry W. Grady Riverboat.

The Formal Garden at Stone Mountain is beautifully landscaped and located adjacent to the Dickey House on the grounds of the Antebellum Plantation. This location is used for wedding ceremonies only and rental of the Formal Garden includes exclusive use of the adjacent bridal cottage. In order to rent this area, you must use either the Henry W. Grady Riverboat or Marina Building as your Atlanta wedding reception location.

The 300 passenger Henry W. Grady Paddlewheel Riverboat is a unique Atlanta wedding reception venue. It has 3 decks... one that is completely enclosed, one covered deck and the top deck. The first two floors can accommodate a seated meal for up to 150 people. Rental of the Henry W. Grady Riverboat varies according to the time and day of your event. Rental is based on a three hour cruise.

This gorgeous couple, Evelia and Ariel, had their Chicago wedding ceremony at St. Peter and Paul followed by a fabulous reception at one of our preferred Chicago wedding venues, Chateau Bu-sche'.

The mariachi band you see in the picture is Mariachi Perla De Mexico and the gorgeous white bridal bouquet was designed by Chicago wedding florist Zenia Ruiz at Flor Del Monte.

Katherine and Matt had the most incredible destination wedding at Carillon Beach, Florida last August. After months of planning, innumerable phone calls to bride and mom who both lived outside of the Birmingham area, we were so excited and thrilled to see our hard work come alive. Katherine's vision was to use the colors of watermelon and mango throughout to create a romantic, tropical feel, and add in lots of bling for that WOW factor. After the lakeside wedding, all guests were treated to a poolside cocktail hour with passed hors d'oeuvres, and of course, mango and watermelon martini shooters.

I wanted to share this fun engagement story that was sent to me by a wedding photographer I have worked with, Paul Perdue at PerdueVision. This is written in the words of his fiancé, Monica (aka The Biscuit).

It was our four year anniversary...I knew we would do something for the anniversary but I didn’t have a clue about what...

We drove downtown and he took me to the Ritz! He had gotten a room there and we checked in. We went up and took a look at the room and then we went to the restaurant in the Ritz. The dinner was great, but Paul seemed off. He hadn't been feeling well all weekend so I figured that was what was up! So we ate dinner and it was very nice and then we went back to the room. After a minute, he said... "ok... time for our next plan!"

Susan and Mike had a fabulous wedding at the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center this fall. Susan chose great fall colors for her bridesmaids, decorations and flowers and the Environmental Center was great in it's natural state with serene water displays and rustic interior.

Gisela & Thomas are such a lovely couple. And the blue & white hydrangeas used to create their special day were perfect. These soft flowers made a simple, yet elegant presence at this beautiful wedding.

Emily and Joseph were married at the Cathedral of Christ the King with reception following at the Wimbish House, also known as the Atlanta Women's Club. I love this venue for its antique charm, it still has the air of those long ago ladies who lunched- in 1895 when the club was established! Without further ado, I present Mr. & Mrs. Luke and all the beautiful details of their day!

Jessica and Gavin had a magical wedding in May on her father's estate. Jessica's vision was to have an enchanted garden wedding in colors of deep plum and purple. Carol Riley of Lillie's Flowers helped to bring the vision to life with beautiful rustic lanterns, candles hanging from trees and incredible floral displays throughout. Food and drink flowed lavishly through the main floor of the home...

Sarah and Andrea had a beautiful wedding reception at the Georgia Aquarium. Besides dinner and dancing, the couple and their guests spent the night enjoying the aquatic views. The Oceans ballroom is surrounded by the Beluga whales exhibit and Oceans Voyager exhibit.

It was an amazing day at Montaluce Winery to celebrate Becca and Brent's wedding. Montaluce is a new Georgia wedding venue, and it's easy to see why so many people are buzzing about this space. Take a look!

Atlanta attorney, Dean, and her fiánce Phil decided to have a society wedding in their hometown of LaGrange, Georgia - a beautiful small town about 75 miles south of Atlanta. Not only are both from affluent families in LaGrange, but they were also high school sweethearts!

Dean chose some of the finest venues and vendors from LaGrange, Atlanta, and Birmingham to bring together her dream wedding.

Affluent Atlanta couple, Greice and Jim, chose to invite their guests to The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida.  This gorgoeus hotel resort is a popular destination for luxury weddings.

Greice chose an elegant monogram theme and used it throughout the weekend. She even had a glorious spotlight of the monogram on the dancefloor (called a gobo light if you want one)!
